Hodges wants both of his former clubs to be towards the top of the table this term. "Southend and Scunthorpe going up would be perfect for me," said Hodges. "Southend are a League One club and if they're top of the league that stadium will be full every single week."

The following summer Hodges joined Scunthorpe and scored 24 goals in 130 appearances during a memorable spell. "That was the best time for me, just to be part of something," said Hodges. "I got the move to Scunthorpe off the back of playing against them for Southend. I loved it up there, the people were so nice and everyone was so friendly."
