Scunthorpe United Football Club is at the heart of a new initiative aimed at promoting health and wellbeing in the local community. The Iron Foundation, in partnership with Lincolnshire Co-op, has launched a Wellbeing Walk that takes place on the first Friday of every month. Participants gather at 10am from the Attis Arena carpark outside the Jason Threadgold stand, encouraging everyone to join in. This initiative, which started two months ago, has already seen locals enjoying the benefits of exercise and social interaction. Walkers Eve Thomson and her daughter Natasha Hall expressed their enthusiasm for the event, stating that it provides a wonderful opportunity to meet new people and enjoy the outdoors. They highlighted the importance of community engagement and the joy of spending quality time together while staying active. Jo Schofield, a walk leader from the Iron Foundation, emphasized the inclusivity of the Wellbeing Walk, noting that it is designed for everyone in the community, not just Scunthorpe United supporters. The support from Lincolnshire Co-op has been invaluable in establishing the walk and training leaders to facilitate the sessions. In addition to the Scunthorpe initiative, Lincolnshire Co-op operates numerous other volunteer-led walks across the region, showcasing their commitment to community health. Jenny Hafford, the Community Co-ordinator, expressed excitement about the potential growth of the walk, aiming to foster friendships and connections among participants, including former players from the club. The Wellbeing Walk is a fantastic way for Scunthorpe residents to engage in free, accessible exercise while building a sense of community spirit. As the initiative progresses, it is expected to attract more participants and continue making a positive impact on local lives.
