Nando's has been given the green light to open its first-ever restaurant in Scunthorpe, with planning approval granted for the chicken restaurant's location at Gallagher Retail Park, off Doncaster Road. The restaurant will take over the former Pizza Hut unit and will have capacity for more than 100 diners. An external dining area to the front will have 20 dining spaces and be covered by a canopy and enclosed by planters. The restaurant will also have an access hatch to enable a more efficient process for the collection of takeaway orders. A licensing application is currently pending with the council, seeking opening hours of 7am to half-past midnight, Monday to Sunday. Nando's were contacted for comment in light of the planning approvals for its Scunthorpe restaurant and asked if there was any indication yet when it will open. A Nando's spokesperson said, 'We’re excited to be firing up the grills and opening the doors to customers at our new restaurant in Scunthorpe later this year.' Planning permission has been granted for external alterations to the building and, separately, advertisement consent for two Nando's signs on the exterior. There has already been activity on site at the former Pizza Hut as Nando's get set to make its first foray into North Lincolnshire.
